Improving maternal and early childhood health outcomes across the underserved communities in Ghana.
SafeStart is a maternal and early childhood health initiative focused on early detection of pregnancy-related risks, improved access to quality maternal services, and strengthened caregiver-child wellbeing in underserved communities. The project delivers portable ultrasound diagnosis and maternal health education directly within rural and peri-urban communities in the Eastern Region.
In 2025, SafeStart continued its implementation phase, strengthening community-level access to antenatal services while reinforcing health-seeking behaviours through continuous engagement with caregivers, community leaders, and frontline health workers, guided by ICDP's empathy-based approach.
In the remote villages of Ghana, thousands of pregnant women face the daunting challenge of accessing essentail healthcare services. For many, the nearest hospital with an Ultrasound machine is miles away, and the journey is often long, expensive, and fraught with risks. These women, who are the heart of their communities, deserves better.
ICDP is working to change this. Our mission is to bridge the gap by bringing mobile ultrasound services directly to the villages where they are needed most. By doing so, we are ensuring that every pregnant woman, no matter where she lives, has access to the healthcare she needs for a safe and healthy pregnancy.
Your donation is more than just a gift; it's a lifeline for mothers and babies who deserve the best start in life. Together, we can ensure that no woman has to worry about the health of her unborn child simply because she lives far from a hospital.
